Celeb Spotting: Serena Williams with Valentino Nuage

When I think of Venus and Serena Williams, I have to admit that high fashion is not the first thing that comes to mind. But Serena was recently spotted out shopping looking casually chic in Nike sweats and carrying a black patentValentino Nuage bag. The bag is a large hobo with a big patent bow on the side. It's overly girly and cute and very un-Serena like, but I love the pairing of casual wear with a luxury, haute off the runway bag.

Even though yellow is apparently the color for the rest of the year, my heart always lies with pink! I love, love, love pink accessories, preferably bags, and this luscious creation is on my It list. It's the (soon to be iconic) Valentino Couture bag in a gorgeous glazed pink crocodile skin that looks soft and plush, and well-made - it's Valentino of course! The braided, twisted leather handles, intricate weaving and exquisite ruching give it a couture feel already and the pink croc adds another level of luxury. Only Valentino could create something so beautifully feminine and extraordinary!
Only Valentino could manage to take such a large boxy-shaped bag and make it ultrafeminine! The Valentino Side Bow Zip Top Satchel is a gorgeous girly bag. The problem with most satchels is that the larger they get, the less 'cutesy' they become, but this one has endless feminine appeal with its top ruching and oversized bow detail. The bag measures 10" x 14.5" x 5", and is available in two colors - walnut leather which is more practical for Fall, and red leather which is also beautiful.
Even though the bow may not appeal to everyone, I think the way it is constructed makes it amazingly pretty and despite it, the bag manages to maintain its 'maturity'. The price range slightly on the higher end ($1,795) but when you consider the fact that it's a Valentino and the fact that it's beautiful and well-made, it's worth it.
Haute Off the Runway: Valentino's Spring 2008 Collection

When you go out, you should go out with a bang! Valentino's last hurrah was the ultimate in haute Spring fashion. Valentino the trendsetter took us to the candy shop with a collection chock full of candied colors. This Spring, expect to see lots of pastel colors mixed with brights - cotton candy pinks and blues, canary yellows, varying shades of purple (the current 'It' color), and of course, metallics - muted gold, bronze, and colored metallics. Valentino mixed up classic suits and dresses with edgy, trendy accessories. Shoes consisted of multicolored ribboned straps alongside polka dot stilettos and metallic gold flowered heels. Handbags were primarily large satchels in solid brights and multicolored numbers that consisted of color block, patchwork and prints. The 60's and 70's eras are making a strong comeback in fashion this Spring.
Another trend for Spring is one that never gets old - black and white. Valentino went back to basics and created crisp black and white separates with everything from polka dots to embellished, ruffled sleeves and hems, and ultrafeminine coats and suits with this years best accessory - the wide belt. White handbags looked 3 dimensional with black trompe l'oeil trim, and a ruffled black ball bag was one of the centerpieces of the show.

The ever-photographed mom-daughter duo was spotted carrying their luxurious bags - a large one for mom, a mini version for baby. Zahara's already perfected the pose for the cameras; now she's got an eye for luxury too!

Valentino is a legend in luxury design, with his international fame, haute couture house, and distinctive brand recognition. That's why I was confused when I saw this bag. Unlike anything Valentino, the Embellished Diva Bag is an explosion of sequins and satin, oversized jewels, and an outrageous Galliano style print. The only thing reminiscent of Valentino is the price ($2,450).
So is the bag tactfully done or just tacky?
